Position Based System

A Position Based System uses a framework of Positions to define all of the roles and functions in an organization, while providing the ability to associate employees to specific Positions. Conceptually, a position is a place holder and one of the many attributes it can have is an employee(s).

Using the defined position information, the organization can track all of the weak spots within the organization without regard to whether an incumbent is in that position or not. As employees move in and out of positions within the organization, the position information remains constant. This is important for budgeting, vacancy tracking, and history tracking.
